Los Angeles, CA - Al Cowlings, the longtime friend and former NFL player who drove the infamous "White Bronco" during OJ Simpson's high-profile murder trial, has passed away in Las Vegas at the age of 76. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Cowlings, also known as "AC," played for the Buffalo Bills and Houston Oilers from 1970 to 1979. After his football career, he pursued acting, appearing in films such as "The Naked Gun" and "The Replacements."
During the 1994 Simpson trial, Cowlings became a central figure when he drove Simpson in his white Bronco during a televised police chase. Cowlings' infamous line, "This is the last stand," uttered during the pursuit, has become a part of pop culture lore.
Cowlings was charged with aiding and abetting a fugitive in connection with the chase. However, he was acquitted along with Simpson in the murder trial.
Simpson's attorney, Robert Shapiro, confirmed Cowlings' death to TMZ, stating that he passed away on Wednesday night, April 10, 2024. Condolences and tributes have poured in from former teammates, colleagues, and those who witnessed his unique journey.
